So, my plan tonight was to make Monastery Lentils (a double batch), in the slow cooker. The problem is, I couldn't find my unopened bag of lentils (I needed 2 cups), and the open bag had about a cup and a half in it. I padded it up with a half-cup of green split peas. I stuck it in the crock with a big can of diced tomatoes, a generous amount of minced garlic, rosemary, thyme, salt, pepper, two bratwursts (sliced and browned in a frying pan), and a chopped onion (sauted in the remaining fat from the brat-pan). 4 cups of beef broth and two cups of water. The house smells heavenly, but even having the glop on high for the last 3 hours, the peas are still hard. Of course, now, I read that split pea soup takes 5-6 hrs in the slow cooker on high.
